Eviction suit on Tuesday
Raleigh may not evict the tenants, but VG Murray and David House are looking to. All the remaining tenants were served today for an eviction lawsuit which will be taking place on Tuesday, June 2nd at 1:30 pm in the Wake County Courthouse.
GREAT. AWESOME.
Raleigh may not evict tenants
BY DAVID BRACKEN - Staff Writer N&O
City housing inspectors say the owner of the Wilmont apartment building on Hillsborough Street has corrected nearly all of the violations that led Raleigh officials to declare the building unfit for human habitation late last month.
The Wilmont's owner, David House of Raleigh, has until Saturday to complete the repairs before the city can begin evicting tenants. Roger Bonney, who supervises housing inspectors for the city, said it now looks as if House will make that deadline and that no tenants will be forced to leave...
Wilmont Moving (Eviction?) Sale
THIS SATURDAY! May 16 from 8am to noon.
-- MOVING / EVICTION SALE ______________
By all accounts, unless the building is brought up to code by May 30th, we're going to be evicted. We have way too much stuff to move on such short notice. Plus we also need money for deposits on new apartments, so come buy our stuff!
We'll be out on the front lawn all morning. Parking is on Shepherd Street and in the parking lot behind the building.
Time is Running Out
Ilin Chen of News 14 Carolina did a nice piece today about the plight of the Wilmont residents, featuring Miles. View it here.

City Council Meeting: Update.
So it turns out David House can legally kick us out with only 7 days notice. wtf.
Update:
The City Council just discussed the Wilmont, watch video of that meeting here. Our district councilman, Thomas Crowder, brought up that we were told to leave in 10 days by our landlord and asked if there was anything that could be done to buy us some more time. He also asked if there was any funding or temporary housing that could be used to help us. No real answers were given yet, these are just things the City will look into.
There was one enormously interesting revelation though. It was stated during the discussion that tenants on month-to-month are only legally entitled to 7 days notice before eviction proceedings, while tenants on year leases are entitled to 30. Why had no one told us that before? We've been asking and asking, even asking lawyers, and everyone told us not to worry about the May 10th date set by David House. Some tenants are on year leases, so I guess for them it doesn't matter, but a lot of us, myself included, are on month-to-month. What are we supposed to do now?
May 4th Repairs in Progress
As of right now there are several workers systematically replacing the rotten and damaged wooden beams in my bathroom ceiling with new ones. They said that the issues with the compromised wood in the bathrooms should be fixed in all of the necessary apartments by this Wednesday.
And from what I can see via the back stairwell there is plenty of repair activity taking place in the other apartmental units as well. Let's all keep our fingers crossed that Friday's deadline can be met.

We received this signature to our petition from Grace Pearce Tucker:
"I grew up in the Wilmont from 1940 to 1955 and have a million great memories. I sat on the front steps and waved to the convoys going by during WWII."
Amazing! We had to know more!
